Ain Raal

Prof. Ain Raal is a Full Professor of Pharmacognosy at the Institute of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Tartu since 2016. He served as Institute Head from 2014 to 2022.

• PhD in Pharmacognosy & Pharmaceutical Chemistry (1989, Leningrad Institute of Chemical Pharmacy)
• Graduate of Tartu State University (1984)

Research Interests span pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, and pharmaceutical history. His work focuses on:

• Essential oil composition across plant origins
• Polyphenolic compound analysis
• Biologically active substance isolation
• Pharmacological applications of plant extracts
• History of Tartu academic pharmacy
• Sociopharmaceutical aspects of medicinal plants

Scientific Trends in recent publications emphasize 3D-printed plant-derived formulations, sustainable extraction methods, and geographical chemotypic variation in aromatic plants. His team explores:

• Plant-based stress relief compounds
• 3D-printed dosage forms for flavonoids
• Polyphenolic stability in supplements
• Phytochemical profiling of rare species
