Aimee Afable, PhD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Community Health Sciences at the School of Public Health, SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She serves as the Associate Dean for Community Engagement, bridging academic research with local Brooklyn community initiatives. Her roles include investigator in the Brooklyn Health Disparities Center and evaluation consultant for programs like Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI) and Live Light Live Right. Dr. Afable received her B.A. from Brown University, and her MPH and PhD from Tulane University, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at UCSF.
Her research focuses on health disparities, particularly among immigrant populations and Black/Latino communities. Key areas include the Healthy Immigrant Paradox, social determinants of health, and perinatal outcomes. She designs interventions addressing maternal health equity, childhood obesity, and stroke care in urban settings.
