Aidan Gray is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Philosophy Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
He received his PhD from The University of Chicago in 2012.
His primary research focuses on Philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Mind, and Theoretical Linguistics, with concentrated expertise in reference, proper names, and Frege's Puzzle. He also actively engages with the History of Analytic Philosophy, examining foundational debates in semantic theory and cognitive representation.
Gray serves as an associate researcher on François Recanati's ERC project Mental Files: New Foundations, investigating mental file frameworks in cognition and communication. He is also an area editor for the academic journal Ergo, specializing in philosophy of language submissions.
In his administrative capacity as Director of Graduate Studies, he oversees curriculum development, admissions, and mentorship for philosophy graduate students. His current research is supported by the ERC grant for the Mental Files project, representing significant European funding for interdisciplinary work bridging philosophy and linguistics.
