Aida Heredia

Aida Heredia is Professor of Hispanic Studies at Connecticut College, where she has taught since 1998. She is currently on sabbatical for the 2025-2026 academic year. Her work bridges literary scholarship with social justice activism through critical examinations of power structures in the Americas.

Her research spans Latin American and Caribbean literary production, with particular focus on Haitian visual arts and literature, the Haitian Revolution, and ancestral communities in Latin America. She employs critical theory frameworks to analyze colonial plantations' philosophical, historical, and literary dimensions while examining intersections between legal systems and spiritual conscience. Her scholarship consistently centers social justice through postcolonial and diasporic lenses.

Professor Heredia directed the SATA Mexico 2004 service-learning program at Universidad de las Américas Puebla. Student evaluations consistently highlight her transformative pedagogy, with testimonials describing how her courses challenge racial stereotypes, develop critical consciousness about societal oppression, and inspire students to become agents of change. She has mentored numerous students in social justice research and community engagement through Proyecto Comunidad.

Her academic leadership extends to curriculum development within Hispanic Studies and Latin American Studies programs, emphasizing global citizenship and critical language skills for addressing contemporary societal challenges.
