About
Ahmad Kassar, MD, serves as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Washington with dual appointments in the Department of Bioengineering and Division of Cardiology. He is an active member of the CardSS Lab under Dr. Nazem Akoum's mentorship within the Atrial Fibrillation Program, focusing on translational cardiac research.
His academic foundation includes an M.D. from the Lebanese American University followed by the Scholars in Health Research Program (SHARP) at the American University of Beirut, which established his expertise in clinical and translational methodologies.
Dr. Kassar's research centers on atrial fibrillation pathophysiology using multimodality imaging and electroanatomic mapping to investigate atrial myopathy. His work integrates computational modeling with clinical data to develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, particularly examining fibrofatty substrates and ablation outcomes. Recent publications reveal strong emphasis on machine learning applications for predicting ablation success and real-time monitoring of cardiac dynamics through optogenetics.
His scientific contributions have earned first place in the Western Atrial Fibrillation Symposium Scientific Scholarship Competition and multiple "Highest Scoring Abstract" designations at national conferences.
As a core member of the CardSS Lab, Dr. Kassar contributes to computational cardiology initiatives including stereotactic arrhythmia radiotherapy (STAR) development and fibrosis-adiopose tissue interaction studies. No formal student advising or independent grant leadership has been documented in his current postdoctoral role.
