Anglia Ruskin UniversityAbout
Ahad Ramezanpour is an Associate Professor of Computational Fluid Dynamics at Anglia Ruskin University, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering's School of Engineering and the Built Environment. With over fifteen years of postdoctoral industry and academic teaching and research experience, he serves as a Senior Fellow of Advanced-HE and is a Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). Ahad also holds leadership positions as vice-chair of the South Essex Area IMechE Committee and previously served as deputy head of school, leading engineering at ARU for over three years.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Heat exchanger optimisation from Anglia Ruskin University
- Certificate for Senior Leader's Masters Degree
- PG Cert in Higher Education, Learning and Teaching from Anglia Ruskin University
- MSc in Energy Conversion from Urmia University
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from Tehran Polytechnic
Ahad's research focuses on computational fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics, with particular emphasis on sustainability and energy/water conservation projects. His work spans multiple domains including heat exchanger optimization, turbocharger efficiency, water-saving technologies, and energy-efficient building systems. He has developed expertise in digital twins for energy/water savings, data analysis, automation, and dashboard development. His interdisciplinary approach combines theoretical modeling with practical applications to address real-world engineering challenges.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward practical applications of fluid dynamics in sustainability-focused projects, particularly in water conservation technologies, automotive engineering (turbocharger optimization), and thermal management systems. These works show increasing collaboration with industry partners and other academic institutions.
His notable recognitions include:
- Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA)
- Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (CEng IMechE)
- Member of Heat Exchange Action Group (HEXAG)
- Member of regional IMechE committee
- Two patents for innovative engineering solutions
Ahad has demonstrated significant success in securing research funding, serving as PI and Co-I for successful FP7 and H2020 grants. His major projects include the FP7 REVIVAL project (as Co-PI responsible for optimizing reversible inflow valves in oil production, reducing carbon footprint in water/gas separation), the H2020 Propelair project (as PI for designing domestic air-assisted/water-saving toilet systems that save up to 30% of domestic water usage), and an Innovate UK bid for a smart bathroom using integrated water/energy recovery. With over £1.3 million secured through the SME Instrument Horizon 2020 for commercialization of ultra-low flush Propelair toilet (with £200K for ARU) and £290K for ARU from the FP7 Revival EU project, his research has substantial commercial and environmental impact.
His multidisciplinary experience across industry, academia, and business development gives him a unique ability to communicate with industrial collaborators. He has excellent experience in innovation management and development, having worked with many innovators throughout his career. His work bridges theoretical research with practical applications, particularly in sustainability-focused engineering solutions.
