Agnes Mueller

Dr. Agnes Mueller is Professor of German and Comparative Literature at the University of South Carolina's Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. She holds affiliate positions in Jewish Studies and Women's and Gender Studies, and previously directed the Program in Global Studies.

Her scholarship examines:

• Contemporary German literature and Jewish identity
• Holocaust memory in post-migration contexts
• Representations of America in German literature
• Gender and cultural transmission

Recent publications analyze Holocaust memory in contemporary German literature, with particular attention to postmigrant narratives. Mueller received the prestigious 2024-2025 Berlin Prize Fellowship and has published extensively on German-Jewish relations in works by Grass, Walser, and contemporary authors.
