Tallinn University of TechnologyAbout
Agne Velthut-Meikas is a Tenured Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology within the School of Science at Tallinn University of Technology. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying infertility, particularly investigating genetic markers and the impact of endocrine-disrupting chemicals on female reproductive health. She holds a PhD in biology and has extensive experience in reproductive medicine and genetics.
Education includes a PhD in Chemistry and Biotechnology (2014), a Master's in Biomedicine (2007), and a Bachelor's in Molecular Diagnostics (2005), all from Tartu and Tallinn Universities. She has been awarded grants totaling over €1.1 million, including EU-funded projects on endocrine disruptors and follicular fluid analysis.
Research interests span reproductive biology, molecular genetics, and bioinformatics. Her recent work examines phthalate effects on endometrial cells and ovarian physiology, published in journals like Environment International and Nature Communications. She leads projects on extracellular vesicles in fertility and chairs initiatives like the infertility treatment information system steering group.
Teaching includes courses on bioinformatics and biostatistics for graduate students. She supervises PhD and MSc students, with notable advisees contributing to studies on miRNA profiles and embryo-maternal communication.
