Afaf Mbarek is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at Queen Mary University of London's School of History, working on the British Academy-funded project "Traces of Jewish Memory in Contemporary Tunisia" led by Dr Daniel Lee. Previously, she served as Deputy Director of Museums at the Tunisian Ministry of Cultural Affairs (2018–2019) and curated the exhibition "A Tunisian Modernity" at the City of Culture in Tunis. Her research focuses on Tunisian Jewish heritage, minority cultures in North Africa, and the intersection of memory, heritage institutions, and national identity.
Education: PhD in Heritage Sciences from the University of Tunis. Prior roles include lecturing and research at Manouba University (Tunisia). She is also involved in the international steering committee for the Museum of Jewish-Tunisian Cultural Heritage project.
