Adrienne Strong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, University of Florida. Her work focuses on medical anthropology, hospital ethnography, and healthcare dynamics in Tanzania and biomedical settings in the U.S., particularly through collaborations with UF Shands physicians.
Her research interests include obstetric violence, gendered healthcare practices, health system financing, accountability mechanisms, pain management, care theories, and empirical ethics. She recently secured a National Science Foundation grant (2022-2025) to study pain care practices in Tanzania, offering undergraduate research opportunities.
She leads the UF in Tanzania - Culture & Healthcare study abroad program (Summer B 2025), combining medical anthropology with field methods training. Students engage in hospital shadowing, cultural excursions (e.g., Ruaha National Park, Zanzibar), and preparatory coursework.
