Dr. Adrienne Erazo is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Appalachian State University. She specializes in contemporary Mexican, Central American, and Latinx literature, with a focus on border theory, gender studies, and representations of marginalization and migrant identity.
Her research investigates symbolic dehumanization of Central American immigrants in literature, connecting to themes of social activism and engagement with Latin American immigrant communities. She teaches Spanish for the Professions (Healthcare and Social Services), literature, and cultural studies courses, and is developing new classes in these areas.
Dr. Erazo holds a Ph.D. in Romance Studies (Spanish) from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill (2019), a Certificate in Contemporary Debates in Gender Studies from El Colegio de México (2015), and additional academic credentials from the University of North Carolina system.
