Adrian West

Adrian West is an Assistant Professor at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, affiliated with the Department of Physiology & Pathophysiology and cross-appointed as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science. His research focuses on bioengineering technologies like 3D bioprinting to develop experimental models of muscle tissues for studying cellular mechanics in health and disease.

West’s laboratory uses 3D bioprinting to create functional muscle tissues, collaborating with Aspect Biosystems and academic partners. His work explores how extracellular matrix properties, fibroblasts, and developmental conditions influence muscle contractility, with applications in asthma, cardiac disease, and tissue engineering.

His research is supported by grants and partnerships, including affiliations with the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba and the Biology of Breathing research group. He is an active member of the Aspect Biosystems Discovery Ecosystem.
