About
Dr Adrian Hunter is a Senior Lecturer in English Studies at the University of Stirling. His research focuses on the history and development of the short story across British, Irish, and North American literatures, with a particular emphasis on literary periodicals as key publication venues. He explores the evolution of short fiction from the early 19th century to the present, including modernist works and contemporary authors like Nobel Laureate Alice Munro. His current research examines the role of short fiction in Encounter, a Cold War-era cultural affairs magazine (1953–1990), as part of a broader study of British literary periodicals from 1940–1990. Dr Hunter’s work bridges historical analysis with close textual study, contributing to both literary scholarship and cultural history.
