About
Dr. Adrian Abdo is a Research Fellow at the Adelaide Medical School, University of Adelaide, specializing in Surgical Specialties. He holds a PhD from the University of Sydney (2018) where he studied redox signaling and endothelial nitric oxide synthase activity. His current research focuses on developing alternative antimicrobial therapies, particularly plasma-activated water (PAW) for treating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections and biofilms.
Research interests include:
- Basic and translational research on non-antibiotic antimicrobial solutions
- Zinc signaling mechanisms in vascular cells and cardiovascular disease
- Biofilm disruption technologies and wound healing applications
- Veterinary applications of plasma-activated water
His recent publications demonstrate a focus on cold plasma therapies, zinc transport mechanisms, and biofilm disruption across biomedical disciplines. Article themes consistently explore therapeutic applications against antimicrobial resistance, vascular physiology, and innovative treatment modalities.
Scientific recognitions include:
- Medical Researcher Future Fund grant (2023-2026)
- European Society of Clinical Microbiology grant (2022)
- Women's and Children's Foundation Grant (2020)
- National Heart Foundation Equipment Grant (2019)
Dr. Abdo contributes to student supervision through the Bachelor of Health and Medical Sciences program and summer research initiatives. He leads collaborative projects with Plasmatreat (Germany) and veterinary researchers to develop sustainable antimicrobial solutions.
