Aditya Ramesh is an Assistant Professor in the History Department at the University of Washington, affiliated with the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies. His research focuses on environmental history, agrarian systems, and the history of science and technology in South Asia. He holds a PhD from SOAS, University of London, and has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Manchester and the Institute for Human Settlements, Bengaluru.
His current book project, Undercurrents: Dam, Delta, and the Making of a Regional Economy in South India, examines colonial and postcolonial interventions along the Kaveri River. He is also developing an Atlas of Madras, an interdisciplinary urban history project using maps and collective research. Collaborations include the 'Cauvery Delta Group' and work with Dr. Bhavani Raman on South Asian urban ecology.
Ramesh teaches courses on British colonialism, environmental history, and urban landscapes. He advises graduate students interested in postcolonial archives, infrastructure history, and South Asian studies. His work bridges historical methodologies with digital and spatial analysis, emphasizing global entanglements and collaborative scholarship.
