She joined the university in 2010 and is currently serving as the Associate Head of School (International). Her academic leadership includes prior roles as Head of Discipline for Biological Science (2015–2024) and Associate Head (Graduate Studies) (2017–2019). She is a dedicated educator, teaching BTH2820 (Crop Science) and BTH3732 (Environmental Microbiology), and actively mentors undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate students.
- Bachelor of Horticultural Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia
- Masters of Agricultural Science (Plant Pathology), Universiti Putra Malaysia
- PhD (Plant Pathology), Universiti Putra Malaysia
Adeline Ting’s research is centered on Biodiversity Discovery, Environmental Sustainability, Sustainable Agriculture, and Climate Change. She is passionate about harnessing the potential of microbes—particularly endophytic fungi and bacteria—for biotechnological applications in agriculture and environmental protection. Her work spans biocontrol, bioremediation, biopesticides, and the discovery of bioactive compounds, with a strong emphasis on microbial ecology and plant-microbe interactions. She explores how these microbes can enhance crop resilience and contribute to nature-based solutions for climate challenges.
Her recent publications (2024) demonstrate a strong trend in microbial biotechnology, particularly in the characterization of antimicrobial and antioxidant compounds from endophytic fungi, biodegradation of plastics by halophilic bacteria, and the influence of environmental factors like light on fungal growth. These works reflect her interdisciplinary approach, bridging microbiology, environmental science, and sustainable agriculture.
Adeline’s scientific excellence has been widely recognized through numerous awards, including:
- National Outstanding Researcher Award (Biological Science, 2018)
- Monash PVC Awards for Research Excellence (2019, 2013)
- PVC Awards for Education and Research (2012)
- PVC Commendation for Excellence in Education (2024)
- Gold Medals at ITEX 2022 and ITEX 2018
- Silver Medal at ITEX 2021
- Gold and Outstanding Innovation Awards at MTE SDG 2023
- Nagao Environment Fund and TORAY Research Grants
- Multiple recognitions in Elsevier Foundation Challenges
She has successfully secured 17 external grants, 10 as Principal Investigator, from agencies such as MOHE and MOSTI, and industry partners. Her mentorship is evident in her active supervision of PhD and HDR students, many of whom have achieved recognition in thesis competitions. She is also deeply involved in academic service, serving on school committees and as an EXCO member of the Malaysian Society for Microbiology. Her research group focuses on applied microbiology, exploring microbial solutions for agricultural, environmental, industrial, and pharmaceutical challenges.
