Adela Pineda Franco

Adela Pineda Franco is the Lozano Long Endowed Professor in Latin American Literary and Cultural Studies and Director of the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS) at The University of Texas at Austin. She is affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and the Department of Spanish & Portuguese.

• Master's in Latin American Studies from UT Austin

Her research explores intersections of Latin American literature and cinema within transnational and interdisciplinary frameworks, focusing on:

• Cultural dynamics during the Mexican Revolution
• US-Mexico cultural relations
• Modernismo and Fin-de-Siècle movements
• Biopolitical and technological influences on cultural production

Her scholarly work includes the acclaimed book analyzing John Steinbeck's representations of Mexico during the consolidation of US hegemony (1930s-1960s). She has received recognition for her contributions to Latin American cultural studies.

As LLILAS Director, she oversees academic programs and research initiatives in Latin American studies. She teaches courses on Latin American film and culture, including:
