Dr. Adam Rudner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Medicine. His research focuses on fundamental problems in chromosome dynamics, including regulation of anaphase onset, heterochromatin assembly, and rare disease modeling using yeast systems.

Research interests emphasize understanding how cells regulate chromosome segregation through Cdk1 and PP2A interactions, mechanisms of heterochromatin formation, and developing yeast models for human diseases like SIFD (sideroblastic anemia with B cell immunodeficiency, periodic fevers, and developmental delay). His lab combines yeast genetics, biochemical assays, and live-cell imaging to address these questions.
Recent publications highlight studies on lysine polyphosphorylation links to ribosome biogenesis, Cdk1 phosphorylation of Esp1/Separase, heterochromatin spreading mechanisms, and TRNT1 mutations in rare genetic disorders. Collaborations with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) have been critical for modeling SIFD in yeast.
Students and lab members include Ph.D. candidates, research technicians, and summer students engaged in projects spanning cell cycle regulation, chromatin biology, and translational yeast modeling. The lab is affiliated with the Ottawa Institute of Systems Biology and maintains both office and laboratory spaces at Roger Guindon Hall.
