About
Adam Oxberry serves as a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy Practice at the University of Sunderland's School of Pharmacy, based at The John Dawson Sciences Complex. He graduated with an MPharm from the same institution in 2012 and registered as a pharmacist after completing foundation training in a Sunderland community pharmacy.
His research focuses on experiential learning, prescribing competencies, and cardiovascular disease management. Oxberry integrates practical clinical experience with academic teaching, maintaining active practice as a pharmacist while holding his academic position. He completed a postgraduate clinical diploma with independent prescribing status, which he applies in his weekly work at a Sunderland GP surgery.
Oxberry assumed leadership of the Stage 2 module 'The Legal, Ethical, and Professional Basis of Practice' in 2022 and became Stage 2 year leader in 2023. He teaches across MPharm, OSPAP, and Enhanced Prescribing for Health Professionals programs, with particular emphasis on preparing students for General Pharmaceutical Council registration. His teaching responsibilities include module leadership for PHA 221 and support for work-based learning components.
During the pandemic, Oxberry served as clinical lead of a Covid-19 vaccination center from January 2021 while maintaining his community pharmacy practice for ten years prior to joining the university. His career bridges community pharmacy, NHS clinical service, and academic education in pharmaceutical sciences.
