About
Adam Monahan is a Professor in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria, specializing in theoretical climate dynamics, boundary-layer meteorology, and stochastic processes in ocean/atmosphere systems. He holds a BSc from the University of Calgary and MSc/PhD from the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on climate variability, renewable energy meteorology, and biogeochemical dynamics. Monahan leads the UVic Climate Modelling Group and teaches courses on Earth System Modelling and Atmospheric Sciences. His work integrates observational analysis with stochastic parameterization techniques to advance understanding of climate system processes.
- Education: BSc (Calgary), MSc/PhD (UBC)
- Affiliations: UVic Climate Modelling Group, Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (formerly)
- Research Interests: Near-surface wind dynamics, large-scale atmospheric variability, meridional overturning circulation, and climate statistics
Monahan has advised numerous graduate students and postdocs, contributing to over 150 peer-reviewed publications. His research spans stochastic parameterization methods, climate model validation, and the impacts of anthropogenic forcing on Arctic sea ice and carbon cycles.
