Dr. Adam J Castillo is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Mathematics at The University of Texas at Arlington. He specializes in improving student success in postsecondary mathematics through active learning strategies. Previously, he held roles at Florida International University, including Visiting Research Assistant Professor and Program Director, focusing on calculus interventions funded by the National Science Foundation. His research emphasizes equity in STEM education and the impact of pedagogical approaches on student attitudes and outcomes.
Castillo holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from The University of Texas at Austin (2017), an MS in Applied Mathematics from UT San Antonio (2010), and a BA in Mathematics from St. Edward's University (2008). He has been recognized with awards such as the Project NExT Fellowship and multiple Alexander Caswell Ellis Fellowships.
His current grants include leading a UTA-funded study on active learning in large calculus courses and contributing to an NSF-funded HSI Transformation Project.
