Adam Howe

Adam Howe is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS), Philipps University of Marburg. His primary research focuses on ritual and medical texts from the 1st millennium BC, particularly exploring concepts of sin and divine punishment in exorcistic texts, social-historical and literary-theoretical perspectives on ritual and medicine, and symbolic language in Mesopotamian exorcisms.

His work examines the intersection of bodily symptoms (e.g., abdominal distress) and theological interpretations of divine anger, as well as the socio-political dimensions of ritual practices in the "House of the Exorcist" at Assur. Publications highlight his expertise in metaphor analysis and comparative studies across Eastern and Western ancient traditions.
