Adam Buchwald

Adam Buchwald is a Professor and Director of the Center of Health and Rehabilitation Research at New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. His primary affiliation is with the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders. He holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from Johns Hopkins University (2005) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University.

His research focuses on the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying speech and language production, particularly in individuals with acquired impairments such as aphasia and apraxia of speech. His interdisciplinary work integrates methods from Communication Sciences and Disorders, Neurorehabilitation, Psycholinguistics, and Cognitive Science. Key areas of investigation include neuromodulation (e.g., tDCS) for speech motor recovery, the role of morphophonological patterns in language production, and the development of automated speech analysis tools.
