About
Adam Boethius is an Associate Senior Lecturer in Historical Osteology at the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History, Lund University. His work bridges bioarchaeology, paleoenvironmental reconstruction, and sustainable resource studies.
- Education: PhD (March 2018) in archaeology, focusing on the importance of fishing for early Holocene societies in southern Scandinavia.
His research centers on organic preservation mechanisms in archaeological contexts, particularly in aquatic environments, and the long-term environmental impacts of human activity on marine and freshwater ecosystems. Current projects explore:
- Soil preservation of organic remains under climate change and anthropogenic disturbances (drainage, construction).
- 10,000-year aquatic paleoenvironmental modeling to predict future fish population responses to climate fluctuations.
Recent publications analyze Mesolithic-Neolithic transitions and isotopic signatures in bone chemistry, with methodological focus on laser ablation and strontium isotopes. Collaborations span Denmark, Sweden, and international partners like Oxford University Press.
Teaching includes courses on Bone Chemistry and Bioarchaeological Analysis (ARKN22) and Archaeozoology (HOSA21). He actively organizes academic events like the 4th Nordic Zooarchaeology Meeting.
