Adam Berlin

Adam Berlin is a Professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY, where he teaches writing. He holds an MFA from Brooklyn College, CUNY, and a BA from Brandeis University. His research explores themes of masculinity, male tropes, and creative narrative forms through fiction and short stories. Berlin co-edits the literary journal J Journal and has published four novels, including Belmondo Style (Ferro-Grumley Award winner) and All Around They’re Taking Down the Lights (Tartt First Fiction Award winner).

His scholarly work emphasizes the intersections of literature, identity, and societal expectations. Notable accolades include the Clay Reynolds Novella Prize and recognition for his innovative storytelling. Berlin’s creative output critiques traditional male archetypes while offering nuanced explorations of human vulnerability and aspiration.
