Adam Battersby is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the School of Film, Media, and Creative Technologies within the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries. He serves as Course Leader for the BSc Music and Sound Technology and BSc Music Technology programs. Additionally, he is the Admissions Tutor for the School and acts as the university's liaison with ICP - International College Portsmouth. He has been a full-time faculty member since 2004 and is an AVID-certified Pro Tools instructor.
His research focuses on Ethnomusicology, Genre Theory, Taxonomy/Folksonomy/Ontology, and the technological intersections within these fields, with a particular emphasis on Nordic jazz and electronic music crossovers. Beyond academia, he has been a guitarist for nearly 40 years and actively creates electronic music.
Battersby teaches across multiple disciplines, including Music in Context, Music Business Practice, Laptop Music Performance, Sound Application, and Key Issues in Contemporary Music Studies. He has also taught modules on Studio Theory & Practice, Game Audio, and Radio Production. His teaching spans courses such as BSc (Hons) Music and Sound Technology, BSc (Hons) Creative Media Technologies, and BA (Hons) Media and Digital Practice.
