Achille Mbembe is Professor at the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER) and the Innovation Foundation for Democracy, with prior appointments including Assistant Professor of History at Columbia University (1988-1991), Associate Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania (1992-1996), and Visiting Professorships at Yale, Duke, and Harvard Universities.
