Abimbola A. Adelakun is an Associate Professor of Global Christianity at the University of Chicago. Her research explores intersections of Pentecostalism, performance studies, digital culture, and Nigerian political/social dynamics.
- Education: PhD in Theatre and Dance, MA in African and African Diaspora Studies (University of Texas at Austin)
She authored the award-winning book Performing Power in Nigeria (2021, Pneuma Book of the Year) and Powerful Devices (2022), analyzing spiritual warfare through political and technological lenses. Her current projects include co-editing Black Literary and Cultural Expressions (Bloomsbury) and researching megachurches via the Global Megachurch Project (John Templeton Foundation).
Her scholarly work has been supported by grants from the John Templeton Religion Trust, AAUW, Henry Luce Foundation, and other institutions. She also writes a weekly column for Nigeria's PUNCH Newspapers, critiquing contemporary social and political issues.
