Abigail Keating

Abigail Keating is a Lecturer and BA Director in Film and Screen Media at University College Cork (UCC). She holds a PhD in Film from UCC (2015), with a thesis on cities and identities in European cinemas. Her research focuses on women in film/media, gender representation, feminist theory, queer theory, digital culture, and protest media. She previously worked on the nationally funded project Capturing the Nation: Irish Home Movies, 1930-1970 and co-founded the open-access journal Alphaville: Journal of Film and Screen Media.

Keating has authored/co-authored over 20 publications, including book chapters and peer-reviewed articles on Pedro Almodóvar, digital media, and Irish cinema. She has held visiting scholar positions at the University of Lisbon and has presented at international conferences such as ECREA and NECS.

Her teaching modules include Gender and Contemporary Cinema and Contemporary Screen Media and Society. She currently supervises PhD students in areas like horror cinema and LGBTQ+ representation. Awards include the Erasmus Mobility Award (2023) and UCC PhD Studentship (2011).

Keating is actively involved in academic committees, including UCC's Teaching and Learning Committee. Her work bridges film studies, digital humanities, and social activism, reflecting her commitment to interdisciplinary research and public engagement.
