Abhishek Kumar is an Assistant Professor at the University of Southampton and a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP). He holds a PhD from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai. His research focuses on macroeconomic policy, inflation dynamics, fiscal and monetary spillovers, and financial stability in emerging economies. He has explored topics such as global inflation resilience, commodity price shocks, twin balance sheet crises, and the impact of government policies on risk premiums.
Key research interests include understanding the transmission of shocks across economies, analyzing the role of fiscal and monetary policies in stabilizing business cycles, and evaluating the effects of digitalization on household well-being. His work often employs structural econometric models and large datasets, including plant-level and macroeconomic time series.
His recent analyses highlight how global supply chain pressures and geopolitical risks exacerbate inflationary pressures, while domestic policies like counter-cyclical capital buffers mitigate banking sector risks. He has contributed to debates on India’s economic policies, linking household pessimism to growth slowdowns and demonstrating the asymmetric effects of exchange rate movements on labor markets.
