About
Abdulnaser Sayma is a Professor of Energy Engineering at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics, City University London (since 2013). Previously, he held roles as Professor of Computational Fluid Dynamics at the University of Sussex (2006–2012) and Senior Lecturer in Computational Mechanics at Brunel University (2005–2006). He earned a BSc (Distinction) in Mechanical Engineering from Birzeit University (1981–1987), an MSc in Renewable Energy for Developing Countries from the University of Salford (1989–1990), and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester (1990–1994).
His research focuses on renewable energy systems, thermal energy conversion, and computational fluid dynamics. Notable projects include the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council-funded NextORC project (2017–2020), exploring organic Rankine cycle expanders, and the EU-funded OMSoP initiative (2013–2017) developing optimized micro-turbine solar power systems. He has also contributed to the Newton Fund’s SolGATS project (2017–2019), advancing solar micro-gas turbine technology with thermal storage.
His recent work includes a 2024 study on dry-cooled Rankine cycles with binary CO₂ working fluids, addressing challenges in sustainable energy systems. Grants and collaborations highlight his expertise in bridging theoretical research with practical energy solutions.
