Professor Abdullah Mamun is a NHMRC Leadership Fellow at the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health, affiliated with the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Children and Families Over the Life Course. His research focuses on life course epidemiology, intergenerational health, and non-communicable disease (NCD) prevention in Indigenous and low/middle-income populations.
Key research interests include:
- Respiratory and cardiovascular health in longitudinal cohorts
- Maternal and child health interventions
- Social and environmental determinants of well-being
- Methodological innovation in meta-analysis and longitudinal data
His recent publications analyze global obesity trends (The Lancet 2025), stroke disparities in Ghana (Public Health 2025), and Indigenous youth diabetes prevention. He has secured major grants from NHMRC, ARC, and National Heart Foundation, including fellowships and partnership projects in Australia and Nepal. Over 20 years, he has supervised 16 PhD students as primary advisor and contributed to large-scale studies like the Mater-University of Queensland Study of Pregnancy (MUSP), tracking health outcomes across three generations.
