Abdul Sheikh

Associate Professor Abdul Sheikh is affiliated with the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Adelaide, within the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology. His research focuses on computational structural engineering and mechanics, particularly developing advanced finite element modeling techniques for structural panels and failure analysis of composite/concrete structures. He supervises Masters and PhD students and has secured grants from organizations like the Australian Research Council and international collaborators. His work involves MATLAB/FORTRAN coding and validation using ABAQUS software, often in collaborative experimental projects.

Research interests include static/dynamic loading analysis of multi-material structures (metal, FRP, piezoelectric, etc.), blast/ballistic impact modeling, and damage detection via ultrasonic methods. He teaches courses like Finite Element Theory and Advanced Reinforced Concrete Design. Current grants include projects on multifunctional structural panels, seismic resilience of masonry buildings, and composite structure design.
