Abbe Futterman

Abbe Futterman is a faculty member at Bank Street College of Education, serving as Program Director for the Progressive Leadership Program (Online). She is co-founder of The Earth School (PS 364M) in New York City, where she worked for 27 years as a teacher and principal.

Research Interests:
Her work focuses on anti-racist leadership, social-emotional learning, curriculum development, and authentic assessment. She advocates for culturally responsive-sustaining schools and democratic participation in education, with a commitment to social justice and community empowerment.

Publications:
Her 2016 publication, "Holding Space For Progressive Practice," highlights progressive educational practices. She has also been featured in works addressing school reform and food-based pedagogy.

Teaching & Leadership:
She specializes in constructivist pedagogy and has led study groups for educators and parents, utilizing Prospect Center’s Descriptive Processes for collaborative school development.
