About
Abbas K Rizi is a postdoctoral researcher at DTU Compute & Copenhagen Center for Social Data Science in Copenhagen, with additional affiliations at SODAS and CX Aalto. He is a member of the Nordic Pandemic Preparedness Modelling Network and has contributed to pandemic response efforts through the NordicMath Covid project.
His research focuses on the intersection of network science, epidemiology, and social behavior. Rizi develops mathematical and computational models to study spreading patterns, diffusion processes, and epidemic interventions, with particular attention to how network structure influences intervention effectiveness. His work bridges theoretical network science with practical public health applications, especially in understanding how social connectivity affects disease transmission dynamics.
Rizi's recent publications reveal a strong focus on herd immunity dynamics in complex networks, homophily in social structures, and the spatial aspects of epidemic spread. His research demonstrates how network topology fundamentally shapes intervention outcomes, challenging conventional approaches to epidemic control. He has made significant contributions to understanding how contact network properties affect the efficacy of contact tracing apps and vaccination strategies.

As Editor-in-chief of sitpor.org, Rizi actively communicates complex scientific concepts to the public. He has participated in numerous high-profile conferences including CCS, IC2S2, and NetSci, where he has presented cutting-edge research on network-based epidemic modeling. His collaborative work spans multiple institutions across Scandinavia and Europe, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of his research.
Rizi leads research projects examining how interventions affect behavior and spread dynamics on social networks, with particular emphasis on temporal network structures. His work with the Nordic Pandemic Preparedness Modelling Network continues to inform public health strategies for future pandemics.
