Prof. Aarti Gupta is a Professor of Global Environmental Governance at the Department of Social Sciences, Wageningen University. She leads the Governing Climate Futures research theme and directs the TRANSGOV project on climate transparency. Her work focuses on global environmental governance, transparency/accountability mechanisms, and anticipatory governance of novel technologies like climate engineering and biotechnology. She co-leads the REIMAGINE consortium on anticipatory governance in climate-vulnerable regions and co-founded the interdisciplinary REDD@WUR network.
Education: PhD from Yale University (Political Science/International Relations), postdoctoral research at Columbia University and Harvard University’s Belfer Center. Professional experience includes roles at UNDP, Oxfam-Novib, and Transparency International.
Research Interests: Global climate governance architectures, transparency frameworks in multilateral agreements, equity in climate policy, and governance of emerging technologies. She critiques technofix approaches to climate solutions, emphasizing ethical and political dimensions of climate engineering.
