Aaron Schulman

Aaron Schulman is an Associate Professor at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), affiliated with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering within the Jacobs School of Engineering. He holds the Paul Jacobs Chancellor's Endowed Faculty Fellowship for Next Generation Wireless. His research focuses on wireless security, network infrastructure resilience, embedded systems, and IoT privacy. Notable achievements include an NSF CAREER Award (2023) and the SIGCOMM Doctoral Dissertation Award (2013).

Education: PhD in Computer Science from the University of Maryland (2013), advised by Neil Spring. Postdoctoral work at Stanford University under Sachin Katti. Visiting scholar at the University of Michigan and University of Utah.

Research Interests: Schulman’s work bridges computer science and electrical engineering, addressing challenges in wireless systems, network measurement, and embedded device security. Key areas include physical-layer obfuscation for BLE devices, 5G infrastructure sustainability, and FPGA-accelerated network middleboxes. He has pioneered tools like BattOr (mobile power monitoring) and Maranello (802.11 partial packet recovery).

Teaching: Courses include CSE 291 (Internet Infrastructure), CSE 123 (Computer Networks), and topics in embedded systems and mobile computing. He emphasizes hands-on projects and research collaboration with students.
