Aaron Preston

Aaron Preston is a Professor in the Atmospheric Sciences program at Northern Vermont University. He joined the faculty in 2017 after earning his Ph.D. in Meteorology from Florida State University.

Dr. Preston's research focuses on tropical cyclones, lightning dynamics, and atmospheric chemistry. He has conducted simulations using the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with chemistry (WRF-Chem) to study pollution transport in typhoons and is developing lightning cessation algorithms for improved weather warnings.

His recent publications highlight work on typhoon-induced chemical transport and lightning cessation techniques using radar data. At Northern Vermont University, he teaches courses like Mesoscale Meteorology, Remote Sensing, and Climate Change, integrating real-world tools such as GRLevel2 Analyst and AWIPS into his labs.
