ALİ ÜNAL

ALİ ÜNAL is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at Akdeniz University's Faculty of Medicine. He has been affiliated with the university since 1999, progressing from Research Assistant to his current role. His academic focus spans neurology, stroke, neurocritical care, and cerebrovascular diseases.

ÜNAL completed his medical expertise (2005) at Akdeniz University with a dissertation on cerebral ischemia and hypothermic treatment. He is fluent in English at an intermediate level (B1).

His research explores clinical neurology, stroke mechanisms, neuroimaging, and neurodegenerative disorders. He actively investigates cerebrovascular pathophysiology, neuroprotective strategies, and post-stroke rehabilitation, with emphasis on innovative therapies like stem cells and vagus nerve stimulation.

Recent publications (2014–2023) highlight his work in stroke diagnostics, neurocritical care monitoring, COVID-19 neurology, and migraine biomarkers. His articles frequently address clinical applications of neuroimaging, biomarkers, and patient-centered outcomes in cerebrovascular diseases.

ÜNAL has supervised three graduate theses on topics including pseudotumor cerebri, stroke self-management, and carpal tunnel syndrome. He has co-led multiple funded projects, such as:

• Chronic care interventions for ischemic stroke patients (2018–2020)
• Stem cell repair in cerebral ischemia (2015–2018)
• Diagnostic protocols for vertigo in emergency settings (2016–2017)

He contributes to neurology education through authored book chapters on topics like brain death, Fabry disease, and neurosonology. As a peer reviewer for national journals, he supports academic discourse in Turkish cerebrovascular research.
