ALEXIS MALDONADO RUIZ

Alexis Maldonado Ruiz serves as a Researcher at the Department of History within the Faculty of Geography and History for the period 2023-2025. He maintains dual affiliations with the Interuniversity Research Center for Atlantic Cultural Landscapes (CISPAC) and the GEPN - AAT Study Group for the Prehistory of the NW Iberian Peninsula.

His doctoral research at the University of Granada (2020) pioneered the application of Structure from Motion photogrammetry and emerging technologies to enhance archaeological heritage documentation, dissemination, and public disclosure. Supervised by Dra. Maria Isabel Fernandez Garcia, his thesis established foundational methodologies for digital preservation of Iberian prehistoric sites.

Specializing in NW Iberian Peninsula prehistory, his research integrates cutting-edge digital tools with traditional archaeological practices. Key focus areas include 3D modeling of cultural landscapes, virtual reconstruction of heritage sites, and developing accessible digital archives for public engagement with archaeological materials.

Through CISPAC and GEPN collaborations, he contributes to interdisciplinary projects examining Atlantic cultural landscapes and territorial evolution during prehistoric periods. His work bridges technical innovation with scholarly research in archaeology, emphasizing practical applications for heritage conservation.
