About
Łukasz Butowski is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Graphic Arts, Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. His artistic practice focuses on painting, drawing, and printmaking, particularly traditional lithography, while exploring themes of pleasure, suffering, and existential motifs like death and transience through an Epicurean philosophical lens.
- Born in Gdynia (1981)
- Graduated in painting (2007) under Professor Teresa Miszkin, with specializations in lithography (Professor Zbigniew Gorlak) and drawing (Professor Roman Gajewski)
- Currently Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Graphic Arts
- Leader of the lithography studio since 2017
His work bridges traditional media with modern philosophical inquiries, emphasizing the paradox of deriving pleasure from labor-intensive, emotionally conflicted art-masochism. He has participated in dozens of exhibitions in Poland and abroad, showcasing pieces like Corpse1 and Losing Virginity.
Butowski’s pedagogical role involves teaching lithography, while his administrative responsibilities as Vice-Dean highlight his institutional leadership.
