Önder Cetin

Dr. Önder Cetin is a postdoctoral researcher at the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research, focusing on the role of educational materials in shaping cultural memory, nation-building, and intercommunal relations. His work spans textbooks for Turkish language and history education in Germany and Turkey, emphasizing religious education, migration discourses, and multicultural identity.

His research portfolio includes projects such as Between School and Mosque (2018–2020), which compared religious education textbooks in Germany and Turkey, and Vielfaltsgeschichten aus der Ukraine, Polen und der Türkei (2022–2024), designing transnational history education materials. He has also contributed to policy discussions on global citizenship education and served as a consultant for projects analyzing Turkish self-images in diaspora textbooks.

Dr. Cetin’s scholarly work reveals trends in textbook analysis, particularly how cultural memory tools negotiate self-images through socio-cultural problem construction, nostalgia, and emotion entrepreneurship.
